Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school graduation diploma (OSSD) or academic equivalent
  • Ability to understand and communicate clearly in English under stressful conditions
  • Valid Ontario class DZ driver's license or ability to obtain within 24 months. 
  • Acceptable 3 Year Uncertified Driver’s Abstract through the Ministry of Transportation that is satisfactory to the County.
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening Check at own expense.
  • Provide satisfactory Pre-Placement Medical Report.  
  • Ability to complete required trainings, attend weekly practices, and maintain good standing with attendance at emergency calls, fire prevention, public education and training activities.
Duties:
  • Respond to emergency calls, which may include fire, rescue, hazardous materials incidents, medical emergencies and other emergencies.
  • Respond to calls 24 hours per day, 7 days per week in accordance with the County of Brant Fire Attendance Policy.
  • Enter burning or contaminated structures to fight fires or complete rescue operations wearing appropriate personal protective equipment as directed.
  • Lay and handle hoses, connect and direct water stream, raise and climb ladders, and use other departmental equipment as required.
  • Drive and operate firefighting emergency equipment including fire and personal vehicles when required, according to County of Brant policies and procedures.
  • Attend required training sessions to maintain and enhance current firefighting knowledge and requirements. 
  • Assist residents in emergency situations including interacting with the public in stressful situations on a regular basis.
  • Involves extensive physical activity, hazardous working conditions, and high levels of stress.
  • Involves responding to calls outside in inclement weather as required.
  • Follow Fire Department chain of command when responding to calls and participating in County of Brant Fire activities.
  • Perform maintenance and inspections of equipment when required, according to County of Brant policies and procedures.
  • Follow all County of Brant policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
