Minimum Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Horticulture, Arboriculture, Ecological Restoration, Landscape Design, or related field or related professional certifications
- 2 or more years of related experience in a forestry or horticultural environment
- Knowledge of horticulture, forestry, natural resource management, ecological restoration, invasive species management, and related equipment and techniques
- Technical experience working in a landscape, forestry ecological restoration setting
- Knowledge of integrated pest management, forest, ecological, and natural resource management
- Knowledge of tree, plant, forests, trail, garden, and parks maintenance
- Background in the fundamentals of plant heath, pest management, and the application of pesticides, herbicides and weed control, and invasive plant management and how that would relate to the County of Brant landscape maintenance procedures
- Experience with delivering community engagement and educational programs relating to forestry and horticulture
- Demonstrated records management skills and safe work practices
- Valid Class G driver’s licence, acceptable driver’s abstract and acceptable criminal background check
- Effective communication skills and customer service focus
- Experience with GIS Software
- Coordinate and complete ongoing evaluation of forestry and horticulture initiatives including responding to inquiries, coordinating and performing integrated pest management, gardening, tree pruning and ecological restoration activities outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Coordinate integrated pest management through mechanical and chemical applications and coordinate and assist in the planting of perennials, trees and shrubs
- Coordinate forestry and horticulture events and operations such as volunteer tree planting days, ecological restoration, Communities in Bloom, Bee City events and garden bed design and planting
- Complete all administrative functions for the horticulture program including but not limited to program planning, ordering supplies, and ensuring a safe working environment
- Responsible for the supervision, recruitment, training, development, and performance management of staff /volunteers
- Assist with the establishment and enforcement of policies and procedures for forestry and horticulture operations and events and other related services as needed
- To purchase supplies and equipment and keep current inventory
- To assist with capital and operating budgets for forestry and horticulture operations and initiatives
- Documentation of maintenance duties, rentals, daily routines, etc.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including day, evening, and weekend shifts
- Other duties as assigned
