LOCATION: Initial Placement – Paris Customer Service Office
General Purpose:
The County of Brant is seeking an organized, creative, and highly motivated student to support the Policy Planning Division with a range of municipal policy planning projects throughout 2026. The Policy Planning Division leads growth management and long-range land use planning, coordinating with infrastructure and capital planning needs, develops new municipal land use policies and identifies and supports opportunities to foster complete, sustainable community growth.
Reporting to the Manager of Policy Planning, the successful candidate will conduct research, analyze data, prepare reports and presentations, and assist with policy development and implementation projects to guide growth in the County of Brant. This role may also involve contributing to special projects and handling confidential or sensitive information.
Knowledge/Skills Required
Hourly Rate: $22.54 (2025)

You must be enrolled in a post-secondary Institution and returning to school the following semester to qualify for this position with the exception of completing a final co-op term.

Knowledge/Skills Required
- Understanding of Ontario planning and development processes, municipal planning frameworks and applicable provincial legislation and guidance (e.g. The Planning Act, The Municipal Act, The Provincial Planning Statement 2024 etc.)
- Familiarity with land use planning principles and community planning issues and the County of Brant’s geography and planning context.
- Ability to read and interpret planning policy, municipal by-laws, maps, and technical plans.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Creative and critical thinking with the ability to approach tasks in innovative ways.
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, maintain accurate records, and to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Adobe Creative Cloud (Acrobat, Illustrator), and ESRI GIS (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Urban) considered an asset.
- Flexible Work Environment – required to work in the office, from home, and to attend occasional site visits and evening meetings.
- Ability to travel between County offices and facilities as required.
- Enrollment in a recognized Canadian post-secondary program in one of the following: Land Use Planning (Urban and/or Rural) or a related field.
